Hey travel experts arrived in Paris at 6:30 AM exactly has scheduled. Kudos to American Airlines great flight, on time no turbulence. Even the food was good. Made a Parisian friend who was seated next to me first timer to New York. We traded stories in Spanish both of us being Fluent go figure.
Anyway thru Passport control in warp speed like two minutes so fast I was just standing there a few more minutes until the agent gave me a nod as if to say Go Get Paris. Off I went to the baggage claim. No problem finding it there's good signage but truthfully I followed the crowd. Found it and 10 minutes later had my suitcase. Now off I went to look for the car service I had reserved. Per their email confirmation once I had my luggage and walk out of baggage claim I was suppose to see someone standing there with a sign with my name on it. Well it didn't happen. There was quite a crowd and a bunch of the taxi guys I'd been warned not to take. It was quite a confusing scene with a few of them trying to convince me in French why I should let them take me to a place I don't even know where I'm going. So off to the official taxi stand and in a cab and again warp speed to the apartment 8:30 AM 60 euros. VIP is awesome! Everything worked exactly has described in the instructions. The key fob worked like a charm for both doors and the elevator was great to have so I didn't have to lug the suitcases up. The apartment took my breath away. Better than the photos. Super clean and bright. I have my own little balcony and can watch the people go by. I didn't even need to bring my towels they provided plenty and extra linens too. OK so now I start unpacking, charging phones and cameras and figuring things out in the apartment. Done by 11am freshen up and head out the door. I must confess it took alot not to take a snooze I was starting get tired but excitement won out. Since it' the May 1st holiday I decided to walk a few steps and hit Rue Montorgueil. Wow! Heaven I'm in Heaven. What a way to meet Paris. They have everything on this street I kid you not. I went to a little cafe Marie Stuart for cafe creme and yes pancakes. Yummy 8 euros. Then walked over to Stohrer where the line was almost out the door but went fast. I think they may do this on purpose cause I started to choose just one item and as I got closer the list grew. The chocolate eclairs are the bomb! Good lord nothing should taste that good. I walked the complete street both ways stopping to get cheese and bread along the way. By 1:30 I could feel my eyelids getting heavy so had come back and take a nap. I was up and feeling rested by 3:30 could have gone longer but want to sleep tonight. Since I had an 8PM Dinner reservation literally next door at Mi Cayito or so I thought (more on that in a moment) I decided to walk over to the Louvre just to get my logistics because my day starts there tommorrow. Wow pictures don't do that place any justice. Its hugemungous! I went in to see the pyramid and took some great pics. I got exhausted just walking around outside and don't want to know what going inside is going to do to me. They were a few people taking pics and no haven't run into any unsavory types yet. It rained earlier and though it had stopped the day was cold and overcast.. More like grey. Ladies I hate to say it but bring your comfortable shoes. I've switch twice and the naturalizers aren't even cutting it. It's the cobblestone streets they're murder. Anyway started back around 7pm in order to make dinner. Stopped at a few gift shops and picked up a few trinkets and raced home. Now I've been keeping my eye out to see when this restaurant was going to open. First I thought well it's early maybe they open for lunch and dinner only. Then when I came back still not open. OK maybe they do only dinner. Even though the menu on the window states dejeuner & diner. OK so now I'm all dolled up and still closed. I made the reservation thru Lafourchette and they confirmed with an email. Do you experts think it's because of the May 1st holiday? Frustrating cause by now I'm out there close to 25 minutes and starting to get hungry. There goes those mojitos I was planning on having. So I decide to head back to rue montorgueil but not before I make a shoe change. There's no way in heck I'm walking on that cobblestone with my cha cha shoes. By the time I get back there everyone and their brother decided they were eating out tonight. They were hardly any people earlier in the day and the weather was crappy. It didn't deter these folks from sitting in the outdoor cafes. They were packed and being alone I was a little intimidated to go and ask for a seat. I headed to a crepe stand I'd seen earlier by Les Halles but homeboy was way gone. Thankfully on my way back from my Louvre walk earlier I had found a supermarket and picked up a few staples and snacks. I'll live I said and as I was heading back listening to the sounds of this lively street and cursing my husband under my breath for being a dweeb and not coming I find a Quick me out. Is this Paris version of McDonalds? The pretty young girl took my order with a big smile and handed me a beautiful bunch of those flowers that seem to be everywhere today. Merci I said and headed home. I'm coming back out tommorrow Paris so get ready.
