Montparnasse Bienvenue metro to Gare Montparnasse . . . how?

Hi there, we are arriving from Germany at Gare du Nord at 4 p.m. on a Friday and need to get to Essarts-le-roi, south of Paris. I know we have to take metro from GDN to Montparnasse Bienvenue station and then get to Gare Montparnasse to take Transilien to Essarts-le-roi (direction Chartres). My question is: how should we get from the metro to the gare? We will each have a 20 kg rolling suitcase. I read that there WAS moving sidewalk and now . . . there is still one? or there isn't one? I don't mind paying for a taxi but would like to have an idea how much to expect to pay?

From Gare du Nord, you'd have to transfer at Chatelet or Denfert-Rochereau to get to Montparnasse.

Cost of a taxi would depend on traffic.

Scroll down to Arriving at Montparnasse from Metro.

You really just follow the signs.

There is a moving walk way part of the way, but it's often either not turned on or not working.

Thanks djkbooks. Do you think it's do-able on foot with 20 kg suitcases? What would you guess would be the maximum cost of a taxi, just to give us an idea?

From Gare du Nord Metro line 4 will take you to Montparnasse, no change necessary. You will have 1 set of stairs at Gare du Nord, and there is a moving walkway after you have negotiated 2 small sets of stairs at Montparnasse.

The change at Denfert-Rochereau is a bit of a slog between the RER and Metro line 6 (I assume thats the change PJK is talking about)
