Is A/C needed in August?

We are going mid August and like our A/C here in the states. I can't imagine not having it, but I could be wrong having not ever been there. I don't want to be uncomfortable, and my husband won't be a happy camper.

What do you think?

Thanks!

If you search the forums, there are lots of threads about this.

The average HIGH temp in Paris in August is about 75 degrees. *But* they do get occasional heat waves. Last August, there was apparently a heatwave for a few days in early August. By the time I went in late August, the temperatures were mild and seasonable.

I was just reading Meteo-Paris.com their their long range summer forecast says only about a 13% chance of this summer being hotter than usual, based on the fact winter and spring have been cold and wet. meteo-paris.com/france/previsions-saisonnier…

So I didn't book an apartment with AC. I got a lower floor number (1st French/2nd American floor) and a northern exposure. But I'm used to high temps closer to 87. 75 is what I normally set my AC to. :-D

The August I was there it was definitely needed ! Fortunately we had it in our hotel but when we were out and about there were a few days that were tough. But, we would have been miserable w/o it in the hotel.

We sleep with ours at 66-68. Ha. I think telling you that just answered my own question. Ha.

OMG well then yes, you do need AC! LOL Mine is off right now, because it's 76 degrees outside.

My simple answer to air conditioning certainly in hotels is yes it is needed any time of year but that is just me.

Our hotel of long standing doesn't have air conditioning. We visit often in August. Very occasionally it has hit 40 or around 100F. That's hot. We close the drapes in the daytime, turn on an oscillating fan and keep the windows closed. In the evening, we open the windows and let the cooler evening air in. I am more uncomfortable outside our hotel than inside. And I'm from a place where the average temp is around 65. YMMV.

I get ac in the summer. I have not always needed it, but when I have needed it , it has been a blessing.. there is nothing like being out in the heat all day ( most sites and museums either had no ac or very weak ac, so can be hot and stuffy) there is nothing nicer then coming back to a cool retreat to sleep in. I am not good with street noise, and Paris is a big city , so I prefer to sleep with windows closed.

I have air conditioning in my home in the Paris suburbs. I use it on average for about 1 week per year. But when I use it I tell myself how glad I am to have it. When it's hot in Paris it's an uncomfortable sticky heat but normally only a few days a year. Unfortunately nobody can know when or if those days will be.
