Dancing in the square at Square Saint-Médard

I have come to watch the rugby for many years in Paris and on the morning before the game always go for a drink in the Square Saint-Médard, there are always locals dancing and singing and it is very French and very entertaining.

Does anyone know the history behind this tradition?

I look forward to any answers / advice.

Do you go on Sundays? I believe I read it was happening on Sundays and I want to check it out, too.

We had an apartment rental there once. It was a delight to come out Sunday morning and witness the singing and dancing.

I stayed nearby recently. There is dancing on Sundays after church ... around midday.

Thanks for this 3conils, very interesting back ground as to what happens for being part of a Church. However, I could not get the link between dancing and singing and sadomasochism - unless its watching the X Factor.

I don't think the Convulsionaire post was serious... Aren't they dancing mostly to French Chansons? I've almost joined in a few times as I recognize some of the steps.
