Cheap Shop for home/ kitchen basics in Paris?

Hi

I am staying in Paris for a month. I just want to buy some very cheap basics - towel, sheets, kettle, plunger etc. Is there a chain store equivalent to Australia's KMart or Woolworths? The supermarkets around me seem to be pretty small and do not have those kind of supplies. Any suggestions... Thanks!

Definitely Monoprix.

Here is an accurate description of the store:

To my observation, Monoprix is not "cheap". And, the typical "supermarket" will not carry those items.

Are you in Paris now? Where are you staying?

For household items, look for shops with "Bazar", "Quincaillerie", "Droguerie", "Bricolage" on the signs or printed on the awnings.

If you're in "Tourist Central" it would be worth your while to travel well beyond...or have a look at PagesJaunes (the Paris "yellow pages").

The Dutch chain Hema now has several shops in Paris, and they are really excellent for simple home and kitchen items.

Maybe http://www.lavaissellerie.fr/767/ ; they have some chic collections, but also some much simpler items.

Conforama at the corner of rue du Pont Neuf and Quai de Mégisserie is pretty close to a WalMart or KMart (much less expensive than Monoprix or BHV) and they have a pretty wide selection of the type of things you're looking for.
