Thinking of buying the ticket online, for 23rd Oct, but do not know which is the best hour to go up(top), and which hour should be avoided! Please help!

If you buy tickets online, the queue is, as far as i know, pretty short (compared to buying them when you get there). As for crowds, well, the tower itself will be crowded pretty much all the time, so it's not really worth worrying about in that regard...

I've heard sunset is a good time, but haven't seen it for myself.

It's a little less crowded after 8 pm. Be sure to buy as soon as tickets become available. Get there a little early because there's still a queue on the second floor for the second elevator - no advantage there to your ticket.

Otherwise, it's less crowded right as it opens (as ticket holders will go right on up while everyone else waits in line for tickets). That would mean getting there by around 8:45 a.m., I think.

The thing is, only you can know whether you want the day time view or the night time view (we chose 7:30pm/19:30 and the elevator lines were not bad at all). We loved watching the sunset and the lights come on. Entire experience took about 2.5 hours for us (we spent time on all the various viewing platforms).

We were there in early October 2008. we went around 3:30pm, waiting in line for 30 minutes. We stopped at the 2nd floor and then went to the top. We waiting in line for the elevators for a long time, about 30 minutes to 45 minutes. We spent about 45 minutes at the top and then we walked down all the way. The sunset was gorgeous, and the lighting was great for pictures. We stopped at the first floor and mailed ourselves a postcard. We made it to the Champs de Mars by 8pm, which is when the lights came on.

In October, the queues won't be bad at all, no matter what time you choose to go.

By that time of year, it's starting to be questionable as to whether it's worth prebooking at all. Do keep in mind that if it's grey/cold/raining/windy, there are no refunds and no rescheduling -- if you prebook and the weather is rubbish, you lose those tickets.
