Karen-you will need to give us a clue. Is it for beaches, night clubbing, perched villages, Roman ruins, art galleries, food and wine, skiing even........?

If you mean on the coast, I still haven't found a place with real wow factor and I've spent quite a lot of time there. If you include places like the Alps, that's a whole different story. There are fabulous places in the Alps and in the Pyrenees too but the coast has always left me feeling that there must be something better.

And there is. It's called the Ligurian coast and the Cinque Terre but they are just round the corner in Italy. There you will find amazing old villages on steep mountains going down to the sea and all that yummy Italian food. The minute you get over the border the difference just hits you in the face. Cannes, Nice, the whole Cote d'Azure. Even Montpellier and the SW coast (the land of the wind!) doesn't do it for me. And in a way the French secretly agree with me. When international travel was harder than it is today, where did they go for their honeymoons? Venice. Says it all really. Don't get me wrong, there are wonderful places in France but not on the southern coast.
