Montmarte

We are visiting Paris in October and wondered if a visit to Montmarte and the Sacre Coeur is a worthwhile stop during our travels. Thank you!

Yes, it's a worthwhile stop. You're welcome ;-))))

(Montmartre is a beautiful neighborhood, it would be worth a stop for the pictures alone, but combined with its history, shops and cafes, it definitely deserves to be explored)

Do explore Montmartre with one of your destinations being Sacre Coeur. But don't equate Sacre Coeur with Montmartre--there is lots to explore in Montmartre besides Sacre Coeur. Here are some links to a few self-guided walks:

Discover Tours has a very good walking tour of Montmartre which ends behind Sacre Coeur. Be advised there are NO photos permitted inside the church (the only such church we found where this was a policy) but the area is well worth seeking out. Simply ignore the peddlars and beggars around the church, a firm "Non, merci" and keep walking.

I think that Sacré Cœur is the second most impressive church in Paris after Notre Dame. I have never understood why so many people disparage the architecture -- the Byzantine domes are precisely what I like about it.
