A few hours in Paris prior to catching sleeper train.

My family have a few hours in Paris on a Friday in February. We will be coming in on Eurostar at Gare du Nord about 4pm before leaving on a sleeper train from Gare de l'Est at about 8pm.

Does anyone have any ideas how we can see some of the city, feed and entertain a 4 year old and get to Gare de l'Est without a mad dash.

We are fairly relaxed about food types and have a reasonable budget but we will be in ski-wear with a few bags so anything too formal wear is probably off limits.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks.

Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est are very close to each other (10 min. walk), so depending on how much luggage you have, you may want to use the left luggage lockers at Gare du Nord (I don't think Gare de L'Est has Left luggage, but someone else may know).

There's no point arriving at Gare de l'Est much more than 20 minutes before your departure as that's the earliest the platform number will be displayed. That said, Gare de l'Est has just been refurbished and is all shiny and new, with some restaurants/snack places inside it, as well as having restaurants nearby so maybe aim to get there around 6.30pm for dinner.

This leaves you around 2 hours. Options with a 4-year old could be Place de la Concorde and the ferris wheel, Trocadero to see the Eiffel tower from across the river, then walk down towards the river and the big merry-go-round., or Arc-de-Triomphe & Champs Elysées with visits to the car showrooms if kid is into cars.

The metro will get you to/from the stations quite easily.

Many thanks for the info and suggestions, think we will look to offload baggage and then jump on the metro to Place de la Concorde and grab a bite at Gare de l'Est.
