Paris to Berlin??

We arrive in paris 7:45 am, June 8 this year. The cheapest flights we can find to Berlin don't leave until 10-12 hours later. We found $600 flights on Air France that leave earlier but they are way out of our budget. Any suggestions on how to get to Berlin earlier w/o paying a fortune? If not Berlin, we would be willing to fly into another German city to see the sites than move on to Berlin the next day, but I'm not finding anything that is earlier and cheaper. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Try Easyjet, Air Berlin and Lufthansa - you'll get much better deals (even including extra costs for luggage etc with Easyjet) than that. I'm seeing fares with them for well under 100 euros each and both Easyjet and AB have early afternoon flights.

If you're flying into CDG originally though, you'll have to travel to Orly airport for Easyjet and Air Berlin. Lufthansa offer an evening flight from CDG for about 77 euros, so you could leave your bags at the airport and head into the city centre for the day.

halwimsey's option to leave your bags at the airport and spend the day in the city is a good one.

However, you could get to Berlin by train.

First, check the German Railways website www.bahn.de. Paris-Berlin tickets start at 39 euros. You would need to take a TGV Duplex or ICE from Paris Gare de l'Est to Mannheim, then a superb German ICE train from Mannheim to Berlin. Total journey time around 8h15.

You probably won't want to take this option as it makes for a long day's travel after your flight. However, if the cheapest flights don't leave until 10+ hours after your arrival in Paris, you would easily be in Berlin by train before those flights have even left!

◾Second, check the Belgian Railways international booking site www.b-europe.com. This can sell the slightly faster route (8h05) involving an excellent high-speed Thalys train from Paris Gare du Nord to Cologne, then a luxurious German ICE train from Cologne to Berlin. German Railways have stopped selling Thalys tickets, that's why we have to use the Belgian Railways website www.b-europe.com as they can sell both Thalys and German trains, as one easy transaction. You simply print your own tickets.

Why are you flying into Paris if you want to go to Berlin?

Good question. We used reward miles and the only choices for free flights for our times were Paris or London. They have made it very hard to use miles.

Using www.skyscanner.net I found several flight options. For example Easyjet has a flight from Orly at 1:50 for $121. Be aware though of the luggage limitations on Easyjet before book.

If the OP is not arriving in Orly airport, he will have to take into account transfers from Charles de Gaulle

Try Air France again, but book a return ticket. It comes out at affordable prices that way. Just do not use the return.
