Parisshort TVG trip.

Hi all. The wife and I are coming to Paris for the first time this early May. I have always wanted to ride on the TGV, but the wife is less enthusiastic about it. I would rather not make a whole day trip out of this so we can do something else the same day. Any ideas for a shorter trip on the train? Thanks .

Try Reims - 45 minutes on the TVG. Nice city - lots of great bubbly if you are into that. Reims also has a Notre Dame Cathedral which is amazing.

Deauville in Normandie is only 2 hrs from Paris. That could make for a nice trip.

My best travel buddy and I don't stay glued together during a trip. A couple of times we took a lady friend with us. She love shopping and she was happy to be left on her own--in a totally foreign country--for a full day, while us guys did some manly sightseeing.

Let your wife do what she want, and go on a TGV trip on your own.

Not a bad idea, ditch the wife for the day, get an upstairs seat on the double-deck TGV with a bottle of wine or champagne and a bit of the local pâte and do a trip to Rheims and back.

Bonjour, Gabe,

I'm curious. How long will you be in Paris? Is it your only destination in Europe?

In case you take TGV trip alone, please assure your wife that Paris is very safe for women traveling alone and that day alone may be one of the highlights of the trip.

It's a pity you don't want to make a day of it. TGV allows you to see some beautiful far flung corners of France which are a complete contrast to Paris. Some suggestions : Reims (only 40 minutes from Paris), Strasbourg, Dijon, Lyon, Avignon etc. There is more than enough to do for a full day in any of these places.
