First time train travel

I have several trips to book including Paris to lucern. It seems there are many websites and I am confused on which is best. If it matters i am booking from Texas.

Book all the tickets you can from this site:

www.capitainetrain.com

However, if you are asking about travel starting in countries other than France, you should so specify.

Most tickets go on sale for TGV high speed trains 90 days prior to travel date. Some sticklers insist it's 3 months prior to travel, but we've had no trouble just using 90 days :-). The cheapest tickets are available then and increase in price as the travel date approaches. If some of your bookings are on regional trains within France you can book the day of travel for the same price and they don't sell out. You may have to stand up all the way, but you will get on the train. We like to practice booking our TGV trips to learn the ropes, even view the seat arrangement, so we will be able to easily negotiate the website when we do the actual reservation. You won't have any trouble and often you can print the tickets at home -- use Antarctic as your home country or you will switched over to RailEurope. Don't ever use RailEurope, higher prices, fewer choices.
