I prefer the biggest -- the flea market at Porte de Clignancourt. The second biggest is at Porte de Montreuil but definitely has more "fleas" -- it is very low end. People who are overwhelmed by Clignancourt tend to suggest the flea market at Porte de Vanves, which has neither the ultra low end or the high end items, and which is also much smaller. All of the flea markets operate mostly on the weekend.

Here is an old photo report that I made about the Clignancourt flea market: anyportinastorm.proboards.com/thread/3319

Clignancourt is more like a collection of boutiques with dealers who have stalls. They store their merchandise there throughout the week. For the highend stuff, this means alot of the stands are run by vendors who also have très chic boutiques in the swanky neighborhoods.

Vanves is more a collection of regular jobbers. Because they don't have three walls and a security door, their costs are lower and the deals are better for buyers, but they are still professionals and know the value of their goods.

We find that dealers at Vanves are more willing to lower prices than at Clignancourt, if only because they have to pack it all back up at the end of each market as opposed to just shutting the door on a shop at the end of the day. Clignancourt definitely has higher end goods.

Here is a site where you can find the various street brocantes by date. Change the month to April.
