Where is your hotel in the Latin Quarter? Some hotels are less than a 10 min walk. If you can lift your luggage up and down stairs then I imagine you can walk that. But w/o knowing the location of your hotel or apartment it's hard to advise whether you can walk or if you should take a taxi.

We always take a taxi from gare du Nord. About 15-20 Euro to Latin quarter. Don't fight luggage on the many stairs at St. Michel- ND. We stay right at St. Michel-Notre Dame and still use a taxi 13 Euros to our hotel. A taxi to the front door is worth every penny.

I would even venture to say that most of the Latin Quarter seems to be well within 15 minute walk from St.Michel-Notre-Dame. Come to think of it, the station itself is technically in the Latin Quarter, isn't it?

It straddles the 4th and 5th arrondissements since it is under the Seine.

When the RER B stops at Notre Dame/St-Michel you can take a set of escalators (to Notre Dame) or an elevator to the St-Michel area at the Quai. Taxis will be lined up along the Quai. Without knowing where you are going it is difficult to suggest if walking from there is practical or how much a taxi would cost.
