Wishing US tourists a nice independance day

I tried to find if somehting was organized for you, US citizens, in the beautiful cité des lumières, but didn't.

So I merely wish you a good day and if someone knows of something, post here !

Bernard.

Merci Bernard - et Dank uwel! Even some of us ex-pats start reminiscing about hot dogs, parades, sparklers...

There are always bunches of homesick Americans celebrating the holiday at Joe Allen's restaurant and Harry's New York Bar, as well as any other American-themed cafe or restaurant - but I think other than that, people just organize their own picnics - hopefully under cover, somewhere dry...

About 25 years ago, I spent 3 months in Anvers, and enjoyed more delicious mussels than I can count! The only other words I remember are slap lekker - which I certainly did, after all that Kwak!

Learn something while visiting this thread:

The Resolution of Independence was voted on July 2, 1776.

The Declaration of Independence was signed on August 2, 1776.

The day has been a paid federal holiday only since 1938.

It is the worst day of the year for ex-presidents because 3 of them have died on July 4.

and to tie it back around, to remember to thank the French -- had it not been for Louis XVI agreeing to sell munitions to a bunch of hicks (in his eyes -- Benjamin Franklin charmed them with his coonskin cap!) wanting to overthrow the British, none of it would have happened anyway.

And for those American tourists currently in Paris, consider stopping by Pictus Cemetery during your stay to thank Lafayette. An American flag is over his grave. Nearest Metro stops: Picpus and Nation.

Yes both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died on the same July 4, just hours apart.

East Coast of the US trying to avoid a hurricane right now. Lots of cancelled fireworks.
