Zone 5 To Zone 3

Does anyone know the fare for the RER from cdg to zone 3? More specifically La Defence.

If you use RER B from CDG to the city and transfer to Metro 1 to La Defence it would cost 9.75 E, but if you transfer from RER B to RER A it would be more.

Using the RER A, the fare would be 11.90€.

What they said. Note that single tickets are not zone-based, they are based on specific routes and stations.

If you go to La Défense by métro then you will be asking for a ticket to Paris. If you go by RER then you will be asking for a ticket to the specific station you want, in your case La Défense. This RER ticket will not allow you to go just anywhere in zone 3, you will have to get off at La Défense.

How about if I had a Paris Visite Pass for zones 1-3? Would only need a ticket to the first stop in zone 3 from CDG?

Yes but you would need to get off the RER at that stop (Le Blanc Mesnil), go validate your Paris Visite ticket and then get on the next RER. It must be validated before each trip.

To learn how to get around Paris by métro/bus/RER (and between CDG and Paris) use www.ratp.fr. You can get all your fare info there too. Here is a link to a route planner:

ratp.fr/itineraires/en/ratp/recherche-avancee

Here is an interactive map of the system:

www.ratp.fr/plan-interactif/carteidf.php…

Since parts of this website are only in French you can also use www.transilien.com or www.vianavigo.com. Via Navigo probably has the most complete English website.

To learn about the various types of transport passes look here:

http://vianavigo.com/en/tickets-and-fares/

A good website to learn how to use public transport in Paris is www.parisbytrain.com. It will likely answer any of your questions about what is the métro, what is the RER, what kinds of tickets you need, how to buy tickets, what kinds of passes are available etc.

Be carefull with the Paris Visit card which is overly expensive.

Depending on how long you will be staying and which days, a Navigo Découverte might of interest to you. Otherwise buy a single ticket to La Défense and then a carnet of 10 tickets.

But a Paris Visit card would be my very last choice.
