Paris - 9 Days. 2 x Day Trips

We have 9 x days in Paris. First time visitors, if I don't count a visit many years ago. Staying in Le Marais. Will aim to see the main tourist attractions. Had intended to do a day trip to Monet's Garden and also Chateau de Versailles. However, have been reading reviews of Chateau de Versailles, and the crowd situation seems really over the top. Of course, we expect crowds in tourist sightseeing places, but from what I have read, it seems ridiculously 'sardine-packed'. It also seems that even when pre-purchasing the tickets online, there are still huge queues to wait in. Does anyone have any suggestions for 2 x day trips - whether the Chateau is worth the effort, or would we be best to go elsewhere? After Paris, we head to the south of France to spend some time there, so don't want to do a day trip that will be similiar to that. Looking forward to opinions. Thanks very much.

Late August/early September.

Wondering now the best way to fit in some of these sights:-

?Versailles Chateau

Monet's Garden

Hop on Bus

River Cruise

Louvre

Notre Dame

Musee d'orsay

Eiffel Tower

L'arc De Triompphe

Pantheon

St Germain

Shopping (department store)

- not sure what else?

Staying in the Marais, so thought our first free day we will explore the local area, go to the market, stock up a bit on stuff for our apartment.

Have 8 days, so not sure best order to try and tackle sightseeing. We have a 4 x day Paris Pass, which admits us into quite a few museums etc.

Any tips appreciated.

The best way to form an itinerary is to sit with a map and a list of the sites you want to see. Check open/closed dates and times. Then figure on 2-3 sites or museums per day. I'd also say no more than one major museum per day or you run the risk of museum overload. Try to group sites by proximity, so you're not zig-zagging all over the city.

Start there, then come back with what you got, and we'll help you fine tune it.

Versailles is worth it if you want to get up real early and catch the RER to Rive Gauche and be at the gates of the Chateaux no later than 8:30 am and having purchased the ticket prior to getting there or using the Paris Museum Pass.

there was a trip report a few weeks old that went through the steps; complete with pictures of only a few people in the different rooms; that was posted by an Indian couple. I did not bookmark it and can not find it doing a search.
