Marais to CDG

How much time to allow for getting from Gare Montparnasse to Metro Saint-Paul? Looks like we have to change lines? We are staying couple blocks from the Metro.

Also how long is the morning ride to CDG? We have a 12:15 noon flight back home. Thanks!

Only one change is needed. From Montparnasse, take Metyro Line 4 towards Porte de Clignancourt. Get off at Chatalet and change to Line 1 towards Chateau de Vincennes.

You will need to be at CDG by 09.15, so set out no later than 08.15.

staying a couple of block from what station?

this is a link to insert start and end stations. To find out about quickest route using St Paul as a start station and CDG terminal 2 end point I get http://tinyurl.com/pny6orx

this does not include gare montparnasse but the dreaded Les Halles station if you have luggage. If St Paul is your station it is a good idea to get a taxi to St Michel-Notre Dame station and take RERB to CDG from there

if you start from Montparnasse you get this route which does not go via M1 and St Paul.

The OP says s/he wants to get from Montparnasse to St Paul metro, as s/he is staying 2 blocks from that station. Then separately, s/he wants to get from St Paul to CDG.

If it were me, I'd avoid métro line-4 (because of the nearly one kilometer walk to get to it from Montparnasse) and simply take bus 96 directly to St-Paul.. It originates at Montparnasse so the bus will be nearly empty when you board it. There's plenty of room for luggage and the stop at St-Paul is right on the square near the métro stop.

It sounds like Les Halles is a big station where the Metro1 interchanges with Metro 4? I think St Michel-Notre Dame is closer to the St Paul stop, but we'll be heading south while CDG is north?

The 96 bus sounds gd - only problem is knowing when to get off with enough time to extract our luggage. Any suggestions?

At the bus stop, have a look at the route map and pick out your stop. Pay attention to the arrows, and make sure you're headed in the right direction.

Board the bus, and head for the rear.

There is a space in the center of the bus for people with stroller, wheelchairs, etc. If this area is vacant, you can stand here with your luggage, but you must move to the aisle if strollers or wheelchairs board the bus.

Otherwise, try to stand near the rear exit door, which is the only way you can get off the bus. There is no luggage storage on a city bus.

Look above the windows inside the bus for the route map. All the stops will be listed, so you can find St Paul and the stop that comes before it. There is also an electronic sign that announces the stops, which is above the rear exit. It usually works, though I don't depend on it. You can see the signs on the different bus stops as you pass them, too.

Pattyinparis, Thanks for the info. We often try to time the ride. We going from Gare Montparnass to St. Paul on Sunday afternoon. Approx. how long is the trip by bus compared to the metro?

It's always at least twice as long by bus - depending on traffic, it could be longer than that.

By Metro, you would need 20 to 25 mins for this trip.

GoogleMaps is a good reference for Metro trips, and you can judge the bus trip based on what that tells you. it's a very handy tool, and easy to use.

We make the bus#96 journey every-other month from/to Hotel de Ville and it takes about 20 minutes early morning and up to 35 minutes in heavy traffic to Montparnasse. Hotel de Ville is three stops away from St-Paul.
