Thanks,

Kathi

You need a good guidebook. The left bank is one half of Paris and not more desirable than the right for a hotel. I would look for one near the river on a first trip as being able to walk along the river at night is a real treat, especially on a first visit. We like Henri IV Rive Gauche which is near the river in the 5th for its charm and location, but there are dozens of other choices at lower and higher price points. It is unusual for breakfast to be included in the room rate in Paris and usually the add on of the breakfast is ridiculously expensive for what is offered e.g. 15 Euro for a little bread and coffee -- maybe juice and cheese, maybe not. So usually you are better off just wandering out to a local cafe for the bread and coffee -- or try the hotel breakfast the first morning and see if the value is there for you.

Hi

In order to help, it would be important to give us

- time of stay (big impact on price/availability)

- price range in Euros

- number of people travelling (single, family etc)

- level of comfort

(AC for instance - important in summer, not so many hotels have it)

size of the room

Must sees : nobody in his right mind can answer you -just open a book or check trip reports (just put report in the search box and you'll find plenty) or look on TA under 'attractions' - that is a list, then up to you to adapt...

I don't suppose you need advice on wine with such an interesting pseudo... :-)

Thanks for your reply! There are 2 of us. Traveing for 4 nights end of September. Maybe 200-250 euros a night.

I always welcome advice on wine!

Do you mean 2015?

For this September its very, very limited supply. Enter your dates on booking.com and see what's left.

For wine, try to visit Le Baron Rouge, one of the most fun wine bars in Paris. You can try wine from more regions than you have probably heard of, reds, whites, roses, each of which is listed on several chalk boards behind the bar …shutterfly.com/media/…

You can also buy bottles to take away for yourself or for gifts.

But a good place to buy bottles of wine is at one of the two wine stores on the rue Mouffetarde, Le Repaire de Bacchus …shutterfly.com/media/… or La Fountaine aux Vins …shutterfly.com/media/… each across the street from the other.

Bottles of wine are 3 - 7 euros out on the street and become more expensive inside.

200-250 €/night for the 4 or per room ?

Try tripadvisor.fr/Hotel_Review-g187147-d229535-… - they rent appartments for 250 €/night big enough for everybody.

I second the advice to make your hotel reservations ASAP. September is a big hotel month in Paris because of all of the trade shows. You will find many/most places fully booked by now.

There are some really good omelettes in Paris (and other great breakfasts) but not at hotels. Hotels do often have basics, which can save time.

For wine, we liked Aux Verres de Contact, 52 B. Saint Germaine (but in Latin Quarter). Lots of hotels in your price range in Saint Germaine and Latin Quarter - either is a wonderful place to stay.
