Paris Hop on Hop off bus

Does Paris have a hop on hop off bus? If so would it be worth it, or is it better to just explore with my Fodor's book.

Thank you

There are two. One is called L'Open Tour. http://www.paris-opentour.com/index_eng.htm

I think its worth it for one day if you have never been to Paris and want to see the main attractions.

I can't recall the name of the other one.

We recently used the other company Les Car Rouges --double decker with mostly open air seating upstairs although we did see a completely enclosed bus.

Good idea for first time in Paris to familiarise yourself with the location of the sights etc.

My mother and I definately think that it was worth it. A one day pass on L'Open Tour (green and yellow double decker bus) is 25 euros. A 2 day pass is 28 euros. Well worth the money! We were confused by the metro system, although others have commented that it is relatively easy to figure out. If you are looking for a commentary on the sites (they give you little green earphones to let you plug in to the language you wish to hear it by....channel 1 is french/english commentary), it will assist with that. We found out that the last time the guilotiene was used was 1971! It was also nice for us to ride around the whole town and find information out on the areas we didn't see. Would we do it again for a second visit? Yes!

Yes the buses are great but dont take a 2 day ticket one trip will take you around all the sites but it takes a couple of hours and with the traffic its not the same the 2nd time

We got a good metro map in the station at the Arc and got an all day pass and zipped about from one attraction to the next in no time we saw loads more this way

My suggestion: try the metro first. If it is too confusing and you have trouble figuring it out, then do the hop on/off bus. My mother is 62 and was pretty sick/flu when we went. So my concern was to make sure she didn't pass out on me. If I had studied the map, I probably would have figured it out. However, that wasn't the case. We did end up doing the 2 day pass and got pretty good at figuring out the transfer lines. (all four routes have a stop where another color bus does stop at) For us, the extra 3 euros for day two was well worth the money. To each there own.

Hi there - I had booked and paid for thr on-off tour when I was in Paris a few weeks back, but ended up using the Mtro to get around.

My regret is that with the Metro you're underground and therefore don't see what you're passing by - so I'd definitely use the bus next time, at least do the whole tour once.

However, I did walk miles and miles, yet only saw one bus..

We were going to do the hop on hop off bus but found the metro was a lot easier, especially considering where our hotel was. One of my friends swore by it......maybe it depends on preference. I liked the experience of the metro :)
