millau or albi

We have 9 days to get from Roussillon in Provence to Beynac in Dordogyne. We want to spend some of that time along the coast before going inland. My thoughts are Cassis for 3 nights to give us time to have a day trip to St Tropez and a day to do the calanques. Then 3 nights based in Sete .( time to go to some of the coast,Montpelier, Carcassonne , Pezenas ) I seem to then run out of time as we want to see the Millau bridge and some of the gorges but if we spend the next 3 nights there then this leaves us with a long drive to Beynac ( 4 + hours) . Would be better to do Millau bridge on a day trip from Sete and forget about the gorges and then spend the final 3 nights somewhere like Albi which gets us closer to beynac. we will have a week in Beynac and will be seeing the river and river scenery there so maybe the Gorges du Tarn is best left out?

Any experiences anyone can share? Am I cramming too much in to the 9 days ? We will have our own car the whole time .

I guess we did a part of your trip but in reverse, coming from Sarlat via St Cirque la Popie, spending two nights at Millau specifically for the viaduct (chateau de Creissels with Viaduct view room) then on to Provence. We took a week to do this part of the trip which also took in Mont Dore and Le Puy en Velay so we could see the volcanic country. We drove the Gorges du Tarn and later the Gorges du Jonte and the Grand Canyon de Verdon out of Moustiers st Marie. I was happier in the Gorges du Tarn than the other two as the Tarn is done down the bottom while the Jonte and Verdon are high level roads with no barriers against the drop. A bit hair raising.

There is info on what the trip was like on our website www.nickbooth.id.au and also on my blog www.lynnbooth.blogspot.com for convenience the names of the various parts of the trip on the right hand side of the blog are clickable.

It may give you some ideas but it is not intended to be a prescription. There are also some accommodation places listed under hotels on the website.

Enjoy the planning.
