We have stayed in an apartment between Collioure and Port Vendres on the coast. It is a 20 minute walk into Collioure and about the same to Port Vendres. About 10 mins walk towards Port Vendres to a Lidl supermarket. There are rocks below the apartment, but there is a walkway to a beach on either side of the apartment buildings. It sleeps 7. One good sized double bedroom on the entrance level, a good sized 3 x single bunk bedroom on the same level, bathroom, laundry. Then on the lower level, the lounge, dining, kitchen, deck overlooking the sea and rocks below with outdoor chairs, and a rather small double bedroom. It really depends on the ages of the children, as to how suitable it would be. We had 5 adults in it and it wasn't crowded.

We would walk into Collioure in the morning to the boulangerie and bring back breakfast to eat on the deck. Most nights, we walked into Collioure for dinner. It is downhill to town and uphill coming back.

Collioure is a delightful town, with good restaurants and beaches in the town. It is best in the evening after the day trippers have left. If you go, I do recommend the little train that runs into the hills Collioure and down into Port Vendres and return. One of the few tourist trains that deliver.

The owner Michel Bessieres is very easy work with. There is an underground car park, but you will need to ask.

Thanks for the heads up. I will check them out. Is Collioure the only town like this in this region. I am also looking for a few alternatives. Thanks a million for the input and taking the time to reply.

Collioure unique, most other places on the beach are purpose built, lots of concrete, great beaches, total lack of charm. But they are not full of highrises like most places in Spain. Collioure is also the most elegant and upmarket. If you can make do with something more low key, there are other OK places.

Have a look at Banyuls and Cerbere down near the Spanish border.

Or to La Franqui near Leucate - quiet, family oriented resort.

Collioure is extremely busy during the summer months and becomes a giant parking lot. We have stayed in Port Vendres a 30 minute walk away or catch the motorised little train. PV is still a working port. Villas may be more difficult than apartments to obtain in that area. Try Holiday-Rentals which is just about the biggest French site we have found. Owners Direct has fewer. French Connections has some nice places. St Cyprien to the north and the area back from the coast [the Alberes] are perhaps more likely to throw up houses.
