theral baths/skiing

Hi,

I think this was asked before but I can't find it.

I heard there was thermal baths near Peprignan. Is this true?

What time of year can you go skiing and where near perpignan?

Is it expensive?

Merci Beaucoup

Click on "Things to do" - travelers article and you will find

1. a list of thermal baths

2. a list of ski resorts

The thermal baths are quite a distance from Perpignan and you need to use public transportation to get there.

The ski season starts in December and ends in April.

Thanks again. Do you know how much it costs and if there open all year round?

Prices for 2010 are indicated in the traveler article mentioned above. I suggest you read it again :-)

The thermal baths are open all year round except

- from end of November to mid December at Dorres

- from May 31 to June 11 and from November 4 to December 17 at Llo.

About a 45 minute drive west of Perpignan there are public thermal springs at 'St Thomas Les Bains. From Perpignan centre you take the road to Prades, and from Prades you take the road to Font Romeu, the largest ski resort in the area. Here there are 3 main outdoor baths, heated by the thermal springs. It is not recommended to stay in the water for over 40 minutes. Only bathing suits are permitted, and they must be speedos rather than shorts for men.

Hope it Helps, its a great place to go after a long days skiing :)

You're lucky if you make it in 45 mn !

It is off the road to Font Romeu (at Fontpedrouse, turn left).

You can go by train to Fontpedrouse and walk to St Thomas (30 min). There is a shuttle twice a day (10 am and 5 pm) from the station to the springs but you have to make a reservation in advance.

Ax-les-Thermes has a spa in the town and skiing above it in Ax 3 Domaines at the other end of a cable car.

Not ideal if you want to do a day trip from Perpignan as the best slopes are fair way from the cable car up from the town.
