Scenic towns and villages around ALBI

We are going to Albi 05 Nov until 11 Nov 2011, after 2 nights in Lourdes. Any recommendations or suggestions what scenic places other than Albi, we can visit? We are renting a car. Thanks

you could head south into the Lauragais... a small area of the Tarn known as France's Little Tuscany... beautiful rolling hills, exceptionally quiet, and stop off at the Bastide town of Revel - great restaurants, bars etc try to go via the D84... enjoy!

You could visit Lautrec , the birthplace of Toulouse Lautrec. It's south of Albi up on a hillside. We happened to visit on a fete day so it was extremely busy with exhibitions, markets etc. It's also the centre of pink garlic production which is supposed to be the finest but apparently doesn't keep as long as other garlic.

We also liked the town of Gaillac just to the west. It has a modern square with a fountain and we had a great value meal in Le Saint Pierre in the main square on a Sunday lunch time. It was full of locals which is also a good sign.

Thank you very much, Glasgow. We love garlic but haven't tried pink garlic yet. We will include Lautrec and Gaillac into our itinerary. Thanks again.

We loved Cordes-sur-Ciel 24km NW of Albi. Lots of 13th and 14th century houses on either side of the steep cobbled streets. We parked below and caught the "navette" (shuttle bus) up to the village. Lovely village with lots of interesting places to eat and shops. Recommended

Castres is a pleasant town (although I think you have some more picturesque suggestions already!)

IF you want a day at the coast, head for Sete with its waterways and excellent seafood restaurants. It is not really like any other town that I have ever visited.

Albi is great, I hope you enjoy the Cathederal with its mad 'last judgement', and the Toulouse Lautrec museum is also very good. There is a very interesting bridge at Albi, also.

Would second Cordes-Sur-Ciel - this place is high on my list of 'must go back to' places. Get there early before the tourist buses roll into town.
