"Lourdes would be one of those small provincial backwater French towns where nothing has happened since Napoleon's time."

True enough. I saw some of the effects of the flooding in nearby Pau when I was there in August.. It's an event that should be remembered.

Lourdes does depend on the pilgrimage trade and has suffered so much devastation within the span on 12 months. We go there regularly on the first week of May and have made friends with some folk who were already singing their woes last May: the flood last year, economic woes, less visitors and were all hoping for a wonderful pilgrimage season, then came the June floods. Sad. They need every pilgrim and if the last poster is willing to go in the dead of winter, more power to him and his group.

On the right hand side of this page there is a header that reads: Top Questions about Lourdes. Read the well prepared FAQ page. In short you will need to get TGV Tickets from the sncf website three months before the intended date of travel for the best prices. Your train will leave from Gare Montparnasse. You can use any of the search engines like booking.com or venere.com to look for hotels. You can browse now to find something you like but most hotels will be closed for the Season starting the end of the month. I would suggest that you start seriously looking at that around late March, early April when the Pilgrimage season starts to reopen and hotels are slowly getting back to business.

So what assistance are you asking for exactly? You could start by reading the FAQ in the right hand column of the Lourdes forum page beneath 'Tope Questions about Lourdes'

How long is that short stay in London? And how do you plan to go the Lourdes from there? It will take at the very least 3 days out of a trip to go to a second destination and that would be just a one full day visit.

And when? There are few flights to Lourdes in winter. Making a side trip to Lourdes out of a short stay in London makes little sense to me!
