Holy Water from Lourdes

Hello.

Can I bring a gallon bottle of water from Lourdes to USA in my checked bag?

Can I take an 8 ounce bottle of liquid medication for sleep in my carry on bag? The pharmacy label is affixed to bottle.

Thank you.

You could bring the gallon of water in your check in luggage, but you risk drenching the rest of its contents. As to your prescription if it is still in the pharmacy bottle with the proper label and your name on it, as well as a copy of your prescription, you should be fine.

A gallon is going to be very heavy. The trick to avoiding spillage is not to fill the container to the top.

If you will permit me to say...The water is merely symbolic, and certainly not miraculous, so unless you are intending to distribute to your whole neighbourhood I would settle for a much smaller amount. Then, once you are home, decant into little containers which can be purchased in Lourdes. If you still wish to give a larger amount to friends and family, then simply top up with regular water...the lourdes water will still be part of you gesture.

According to the TSA website, the 100ml (3.4oz limit is still applicable for carry on liquids. So your 8oz bottle of medication will not be allowed. I cannot imagine anyone needing 8oz of medication to get to sleep. Decant what you need into a small bottle.

according to the TSA website, liquid medication (prescription) is exempt from the 3.4 oz rule (in reasonable quantity) but it must be DECLARED. Best to bring a copy of your prescription with you.

Ooops, I stand corrected. I should have read further. I still can't think why you would need 8oz of any liquid to get to sleep, unless it was Bourbon..

Easy solution bring the Bourbon when you have drank it in Lourdes fill the bottle with holy water and return to case if need be you can buy lots of alcahol in Lourdes. If you want to bring Holy Wter back buy the bottles in the shops facing Basilica lots of them although the ones on the way to the train station are cheaper fill them with Holy Water and you can also have them blessed by one of the priest for a small fee or donation.
