La Braderie in Lille

My questions concern the La Braderie in Lille. I’m considering planning a trip from the US based around a visit to this flea market. I’ve seen reviews on places to stay etc, but I can’t find much information on the actual shopping / crowd experience.

If anyone’s been in the last few years I would love to see a review.

Did you feel safe at all hours? Were the crowds generally easy going? Do the crowds thin out so you can actually shop, or is it constant elbow to elbow?

I would also like to know what you bought/saw for sale, and what the prices were like. My main interests are vintage textiles and crafty items, beads, etc.

I appreciate any advice.

Have a look at YouTube for videos of the event in recent years.

It might give you a flavour of what to expect.

Type in 'Braderie de Lille 2006' in their search box as a starting point.

With a large crowd like that there have been problems with pickpockets (Adults and children) but you'd expect that anywhere in the World in a market that size.

Some stalls stay open all night so there should be more room for elbows by then.

Thanks so much for your response. YouTube was an excellent suggestion. What I saw reminds me of Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
