Mont st. Michel and D-day beaches in 2 days

We will have 2 days mid week in June, and would like to see Mont St. Michel and tour D-Day beaches. We are planning on taking the train from St. Lazare to Rennes, then renting a car and driving to MSM, touring and then driving to Bayeux to spend the night. Then in the AM taking a 1/2 day tour of the beaches then grabbing the train from Bayeux back to Paris.

Is this possible? How far of a drive is it from Rennes to MSM. How much time to visit MSM. How far and long to get Bayeux from MSM? 1/2day tour long enough to see beaches? Sorry, lots of questions as it will be our first time in over seas and not sure we will be able to get back in the future and would like to see as much as possible. Thank you in advance.

Check Google Maps to see how long from Rennes to MSM. Same with MSM to Bayeux, but as I remember, less than 2 hrs. from MSM to Bayeux.

I would advise you an easier way. Take the train to Bayeux on the morning and taking the half day tour from one of the tour company there. Sleeping in Bayeux after walking the cute town. Taking a group/private tour to Mont saint Michel the next day, only 1h20 from Bayeux one way (Normandy sightseeing tours have guided tours and Bayeux shuttle and Churchill hotel have shuttle) and taking a train from Bayeux back to Paris.

This way you skip the car rental. This would be much more relax for you.

On a afternoon tour on the DDay beaches, you will see Omaha beach, Point du Hoc and the sobering American Cemetery. It is the three main sights, even if it is only a small part of the DDay history.

If you stick to your original plan, with Day 1 at Le MSM and Day 2 devoted to D-Day, then you may well find you can do an all-day D-Day tour and get the tour guides to drop you at the station for the train back to Paris at the end of the day.

This would give you a lot more 'bang' for your buck!!!!

What are your dates? There are train strikes planned between April and June so your planned train journeys may be affected. The strike may not last until June but no one knows. There is a calendar of strike dates so perhaps your train dates don't fall on a strike date and perhaps the strike will be over by June but at this point no one knows.
