Stay in Deauville, Honfleur, Bayeaux or Arromanches?

My husband and I are planning a Friday-Sunday trip from Paris in early July. We'll leave Paris early Friday morning by rental car, travel back to Paris sometime Sunday, stopping to see Etretat on the way back. Thinking of stopping in Rouen on our way to our Normandy base on Friday, but trying to decide where to stay for the 2 nights (don't want to split the stay in 2 places). We'd like to see some D-Day history, Honfleur, have some incredible food and get a decent (albeit abbreviated) sense of the region. Any suggested routes to take and where to stay? We're looking at Deauville, Honfleur, Bayeux or Villas d'Arromanches. Would prefer a more "seaside" feel, but would stay in a village if it is more efficient. Thanks for your help!

With own transport and if you are going to self-guide rather than taking a guided D-Day group tour (as most,of them start in Bayeux - and around 8am)

Then I would stay in Arromanches.

Thank you for the reply @EssexWanderer! Is Arromanches very touristy/crowded?

NYC,

We stayed in Arromanches-les-Bains in 2012 at Normandy Beach B & B. It certainly was not crowded or touristy, but that was five years ago in May. I can't imagine it being crowded at any time. Wonderful hosts as well.

The village is right on the beach where the remains of the artificial harbour lay. Truly impressive and a beautiful seaside setting. Also perfectly central to the other D-Day beaches, Bayeaux etc.

Enjoy!

Ken
