Day trips from Paris

I have been looking for day trips to Normandy from Paris and am wondering if anyone can recommend a specific agency? We will have our 11 year old granddaughter with us on her once-in--a-lifetime grandparent trip. So we are especially interested in a company or tour guide who caters to kids. Hope to hear several suggestions. Thanks!

Day trips to Normandy from Paris are tough because of the distance involved -- the invasion beaches (where I'm guessing you're headed) are a solid 3 hour drive each way, and that's if traffic is good. That makes for a *crazy* long day...6 hours in the car and a big field full of headstones might not be the most rewarding day for an 11-year-old. (depends partially on how "into" history she is, and how much she knows about what happened during the invasion, as well)

If you can stay overnight in Bayeux and hire a guide, it will be much more relaxed and much more enjoyable for everyone.

Direct trains from Paris to Bayeux, the best town from which to take a tour of the beaches, take a little over 2 hours. The one way fare can be as little as €15 booked far enough ahead (up to 3 months) at www.tgv-europe.com

If your grand-daughter reads up a little on the battle of Hastings she would probably enjoy a visit to the Bayeux tapestry. The cathedral is very much worth visiting and the town itself is pleasant so an overnight that allows a few hours there would be no hardship IMO.

Do not use RailEurope to book any train travel.

A tour can be arranged to take in places where there are hands on objects that interest young'n more.

There are sites which are just fields of grass and you have to fill in the action with your imagination. there are sites with bunkers to go in, guns ti touch, guns to sit on, bullets stuck in walls, or railings with nicks taken out by bullets.
