Hi my husband and I are planning to travel to Normandy in October 2014. We will be coming from Germany, either cologne or Frankfurt. We would appreciate advice on the best way to travel from these towns in Germany to the region. We are opened to hiring a car once in the region. My husband is an officer in the NZ army and has a particular interest in The D day history. I intend to hire a private guide for a tour. I have read many posts in the forum and would like advice on where to stay. We will have approx 5-6 days. We are B and B travellers and like small, intimate b &bs., a bonus would be a resident moggy, but this is a fantasy I expect! We would prefer to base ourselves in in one place, or perhaps two. Advice on where to go and what to see. Normandy is appreciated. We also love food and markets so would like to incorporate these interests into our trip, in addition to the military history of the region.
I have a particular interest in WWI history but am unsure if we would have time to visit any towns associated with the australian/nz campaigns.
Thank you in advance
