Where to stay in Normandy area?

Will be in north coast of France in August and would like to see the Normandy beaches and see some quaint coastal and inland towns. Any recommendations for itineraries or where to stay? Everything looks beautiful! Where are best places to visit? Thank you!

Honfleur is a long way from the D-Day Zone, if that is what you mean by Normandy Beaches.

Stay at Arromanches-Les-Bains, or Bayeux.

How much time do you have for your trip?

Thank you. I think we'll have 4-5 days. Based on some other forums, seems good to spend a few in Bayeux and one in Honfleur? What would you recommend? Also, I'm guessing it's best to fly into Paris, but what about flying into Rouen? And where is best to get the car rental? Thank you so much for your help!

Yes, you certainly could stay in Honfleur if you have that much time available...

CAN you fly into Rouen, from where you are??

Haven't looked into it yet, but we would be leaving from New York. Does a Normandy area trip make sense if we want to end up, eventually, in Bonn, Germany? If so, what's the best way to do that logistically? Thanks so much for your help!

We drove across France and stayed in Honfleur- it is a must for quaint French towns. It has a wonderful habour and history. We got in about 6pm and spent the whole next day looking around the town. Lots of nice shops as well as the history to look at. We then drove to the D-Day beaches - Depending on your interest in the history, you can do them all, the museum at Caen the Bayeux Tapestry in one day. Staying in Bayeux would also be nice. We went on to Mont st Michel and stayed down there.

See my other review of the B & B in Honfleur if you are interested.

Thanks so much! Will check out your review as well. We would like to explore this area for 4-5 days and eventually get to Bonn, Germany, where we have relatives. Is that too ambitious? Could we do that by rail or air if if is too much too drive? Thanks again for your help!

Here's a little extra inspiration from the Normandy Tourist Board:
