Le Baule for a holiday !

Although this Forum does not seem to be too well used , here

goes and I hope that someone out there with experience of La Baule, is looking in.

Can anyone tell me what the temperatures are like toward the second half of August.

Also what is the shopping like and what is there to do in the evenings other than to eat ?

Thanks

The average day time temp in August near La Baule is 25°C. That is an average. It could be warmer or it could be cooler. La Baule is a busy seaside resort town and August will be high season there. There is loads of shopping and plenty of places to eat there. I don't know what you'd like to do at night but there are plenty of bars and cafés there and likely a few nightclubs as well. Here is a link to the tourist office website if you'd like to find out more:

After all of my years on the French forums, this is the first question I can remember about La Boule in summer. La Boule is very popular for Parisians during August but virtually unknown among the non French.

It actually might be a little too popular. Places to stay will be very hard to come by in August (of this year) and expect it to be very, very crowded. The beach will be absolutely packed, some thing like ants crawling over moist bread.

Hey Sarastro .....thanks for coming in on this. What a blow ! Just as i was warming to the idea of La Baule for a holiday.

D.ye reckon Les Sable d'Olonne would be any better? Crowd-wise, I mean?

The beach of La Baule is 12 km long. It will be crowded but you should be able to find room to spread out your beach towel.

Thankyou Pvoyageuse, it is also very good of you to send a response to my message. I much appreciate all of you being kind enough to come back.

And you give me a degree of hope then and yes you rare right, with a beach that long we should be able to find somewhere to plonk down a towel.

Thanks again. same final question...do you happen to know any decent hotels there ?

No, I am sorry, the only one I know is l'Ermitage because I once attended a conference there and it is very expensive. Have a look at TA list of hotels and also at Pornichet, close to La Baule and slightly less expensive.

Thats Ok I understand and Pornichet may be a good idea . The thought of massive crowds is a bit off-putting and La Baule in August may not have been one of my best idea's.

I might even consider early September except the weather will probably be a tad cooler. Decisions..decisions !!

Thanks for coming back on this again. I am grateful.
