Vineyard trips in Amboise

Am travelling to Amboise on May 29 and 30. While at Amboise we would be seeing some of the chateaux. However wanted to know, are there any trips organized for visiting vineyards and not just wine tasting.

If Amboise is not a good place for visiting vineyards, where could we stay at Loire to be able to visit vineyards?

It is difficult to arrange a visit to the vineyards without a tasting - the winemakers are a business dependant on making and selling wine, and not all that willing to take time out to show you their vines without the posibilty to sell you something.

However, if you mean just stopping by the side of the road to look at the rows of plants you can do that most places, although Amboise wouldn't be the best place to do it. One of the more recognised wine growing areas would be better. Once you're off the main road you will see many parcels of grape vines around Chenonceaux, St Georges sur Cher and Vouvray which are probably the most accessable from Amboise. It wouldn't be considered polite, though, to do much more than look at them from the roadside without some sort of consent.

The tourist office do organized trip to Chateau and Vineyards you can have your lunch in the vineyard and the owner gives a guided tour of the area explaining the soil and the wine making process and you are no obliged to buy or drink any wine as some people do not actually drink. Some of the trips are a bit expensive but a good day out you usually get to see 2 chateaux and you have a guide all day.
