Poitiers - stay in the city or travel elsewhere?

Hi, looking at some cheap flights to Poitiers June Bank Holiday weekend. Am not familiar with that part of France. Is Poitiers somewhere to spend a nice weekend or would it be worth travelling to the coast somewhere, or to another town? And how easy is it to get around by public transport? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks!

JAS: I NEVER said "as you do not want to use........."

If you re-read the post regarding Bourges, what I actually said was

<<Presumably you don't want to use the hotel's own private parking facilities?>>

I made an innocent remark and not a "sneering" comment.

By the way, that's the 3rd offensive adjective you've used about me.
