Place to stay between Reims and Provence

Hi we are travelling in July from Reims to Provence by car and would like to break up the journey and spend a night about half way.

I would think somewhere between Chalon-sur-Saone and Lyon. Can anyone suggest a nice village or even a place in one of the bigger towns that would be worth stopping in. We are a family of 4.

Thankyou, Eleanor.

Lyon is a good break point.

Have a look at Chateau Pizay just to the north of Lyon. It is situated just outside the town of Belleville in the Beaujolis area.

Beaune would also be a lovely stop. It's less than an hour north of Chalon and is a wonderful town with some great attractions. I've driven from Mercurey (about 10 mins from Chalon) to St-Remy-de-Provence in one go and it was a really easy drive.

Here is a little about the area.. whereswiwi.com/2012/…

Or you could stay in Mercurey and have a fabulous meal here...

Have a great trip!
