    Great boullibase outside Marseille/Cassis??

    We're traveling to Provence in September, staying in Bonnieux. I want to experience a really great boullibase on our trip. Do we need to drive to Marseille or Cassis to get the real thing? If so, can we get that at lunchtime most places? I've heard that you actually have to order it 24 hours in advance!! I learned the hard way in Spain that Barcelona is NOT the place to get great paella and I do not want to make a similar mistake in France. Advise????

    I love Bouillabaisse lunch in Michelin star Christian Peyre Domaine de Bournissace Between St Remy and Noves. Lunch only, 33€ wine incl... A bargain for such a restaurant.

    "REAL" Bouillabaisse is a Marseille thing.....

    But...phidou's suggestion sound great! Check it out....

    Sounds like an amazing bargain....

    It's not unusual to find Bouillabaisse for 80 to 120 euros per person in the best tables....

    phidou - Is it actually in Noves, or is it along Rt. D-30? Like datthecoast, we can't wait to try it. Do you think that reservations are necessary, especially if we want to eat mid-day, as opposed to dinner?

    Have in mind that the restaurant phidou mentionned has a special bouillabaisse thing only on Fridays. Just checked the restaurant's website.

    I said it was between St Remy and Noves.

    It is actually located on the town of Eyragues but in the middle of the countryside.

    I would say it might be wise to book.

    remember that the 8 to 12th May is going to be a very very busy week end since 2 bank holidays in a row...

    And that Bouillabaisse is on Friday lunch only

    In 1980 a group of Marseille restaurateurs drew up the "Bouillabaisse Charter", a code of practice to guarantee high standards. Since then other chefs have signed up from as far afield as Switzerland and North Africa. More about the charter: http://bit.ly/gdjZ6L

    There is one Bouillabaisse Charter signatory restaurant in Avignon that you might want to check out: Le Jardin de la Tour: www.jardindelatour.fr/info.php…

    I haven't eaten there personally, though.
