Itinerary feedback

Would love suggestions. We enjoy culture, people, wine and food. Planning 3 days based in St. Remy.

Day 1 Nimes and Pont du Gard and St. Remy

Day 2. Chateuneuf du Pape, Seguret and Gigondas

Day 3 Markets in St. Remy and Arles andLes Beaux.

Does this seem like a good overview? Another option would be Aix and Cassis.

Three days--so much possible but you can't do everything. Your schedule looks good, a little heavy on St Remy which we've found to be an excellent vantage point but outside of the Wednesday market, a little underwhelming. Don't miss St. Paul Monastery nearby. The days of the week you are visiting would factor in with market visits. I would not extend your travel to Cassis or Aix as they are quite far away.

Re: Your 'wine day' in CdP, Seguret and Gigondas. Vaison la Romaine has a wonderful set of ruins from the old roman village set in the town center along with a classic perched medieval village. Chateauneuf du Pape is a tough town to get a handle on as most of the wineries of the area do not have tasting rooms in town. An appointment at Beaucastel for an english speaking tour would be inspirational but it is outside the town. Gigondas is all about the cooperative tasting room and it is sensational but best left to the end of your touring--its a ways back to St. Remy (we've done it).

Markets finish around 12:30 or 1:00, so pretty tough to do 3 in one day.

Les Baux doesn't have a market. And you have to go to markets on specific days. The one in St-Rémy is on Wednesday. The one in Arles is Saturday (well, yes, there's a small one on Wednesdays, to, but it would be total market overkill to do two in a day, and you likely wouldn't even have time).

No Uzes? I think it is a terrific town to visit. I would combine Uzes with Pont du Gard on Day 1.

If Day 3 is a Saturday, it would work great for the market day in Arles. A day trip to Aix would be a nice alternative.

If you want to take a tour and tasting at Beaucastel, e-mail or phone there a few weeks in advance. For your Day 2 in the Rhone region, you can start with a stop in Vaison, then head to Gigondas (very nice ceramics shop, two beautiful churches, cooperative tasting of Gigondas wines, and an A-1 tourist office), then on to Seguret and have lunch there. I recommend that you also stop in Beaumes de Venise and taste the delicious sweet wine there or buy a bottle to enjoy at your base. As for Chateauneuf du Pape, it does have many cooperative tasting rooms but I would leave this one to the end. It is an ok spot to miss, IMO.

It is great to have a plan, as long as you are prepared to make last minute changes and omissions.
