St Remy market v L'Isle sur la Sorgue market

Are these two markets very different? We arrive in St Remy on a Saturday, late in the afternoon and will probably want to relax next day, rather than going off to a busy market. If the Wednesday St Remy market is just as good/similar we will give L'Isle a miss. We would also thought it would be better to explore L'Isle on another day when it is quiet. Opinions please.

IMO, the St. Remy market cannot hold a candle to the Sunday market in Isle sur la Sorgue, but you have to do what you have to do. I also think that Isle sur la Sorgue is one of those villages that actually benefit from the market and are otherwise not all that charming. But, again, this is my opinion and you have your scheduling to consider.

The 'Isle sur la Sorgue market is much larger / better.

The markets run in the morning only. So enjoy the market in the AM....have lunch and explore more in the afternoon when it is quieter.

I haven't been to the market at Isle sur la Sorgue but we did go to St-Remy's market. Without anything to compare it to, we really enjoyed it. It was lively but not overwhelmingly busy, there was fresh produce, cheese (of course!), ceramics, textiles. It really transformed the feel of the town, but by early afternoon no trace remained!

L'Isle sur la Sorgue was one of our favourite towns. On a regular weekday it was very quiet and at times it felt like we were the only ones there.

We love both markets - but you need to keep in mind that they are quite different.

The Wednesday Market in St. Remy is, for the most part a Market devoted to food ( vegetables, meat, and herbs ) that also has a good number of vendors that sell Provencal fabrics and tableware ... I urge you to seriously consider exploring it, enjoying a mid-day meal at one of our favorite restaurants:

- Bistrot des Alpilles

- La Maison Jaune

- La Medina

And then perhaps exploring one of the wonderful nearby historical sites, such as: Les Baux, or Arles.

The Sunday Market in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is much larger, and also features an area that is totally devoted to antiques. We love the Market, and there are some wonderful places to enjoy a mid-day meal alongside the river after exploring the market, but, in all honesty, L'Isle-sur la-Sorgue is not a place that we would put on our destination-list, since, IMHO, aside from the wonderful watermills, there really isn't that much of historical significance to see there .

Precisely. And it just depends on why a market appeals to you, but it's frequently because of the atmosphere it creates in its location, and they are both good at this.

PWMV -The market just appeals to us for the atmosphere, rather than for buying anything. Some of you who have replied have indicated that L'Isle hasn't got much going for it. Would it be better to have a short visit to see the watermills, on another day, on the way to some other attractions nearby?

Go and enjoy the market in L'Isle sur la Sorgue and enjoy the rest of the town as well. It is certainly worth a visit.
