Lavender fields?

Hello,

I am renting a car in Aix and driving to Cannes in mid July this year. I would like to drive through some lavender fields on my way from Aix to Cannes. Can anyone provide some suggestions or advice? I'm not in a rush and will enjoy a meandering route!

With thanks,

JDEF

Depending on the weather, harvest is usually around mid-July. Sault would be a good destination for you. It's the opposite direction of Cannes, but not far.

While it's true that Sault offers amazing lavander viewing, if you are heading from Aix to Cannes, the Valensole Plateau would be much less out of your way. It's second only to Sault in terms of gorgeous viewing.

Is it ridiculous to think we could pick up the car in Aix, drive to Avignon, visit Sault, then Valensole before heading to Cannes. We arrive in Aix at 9am. We could have lunch in Avignon then a snack in Valensole before heading to Cannes....perhaps arriving in Cannes for 7pm? Or is that just too much?

Avignon may unfortunately take all your time as it is going to be busy during the theatre festival.

If you really want to enjoy the drive go straight to Valensole , a rather secluded place with lots of lavender fieds.

Further east take some time in pretty Moustiers ste Marie.

Enjoy close by turquoise Lake ste Croix if you fancy a bathe on your way to the D 952 road along the Verdon Canyon .A short loop from Lapalud du verdon on the Route des crêtes for great views .

It wouldn't take much more than 2 hours from Lapalud to Cannes via Castellane on Route Napoleon ,according to viamichelin.com

Agree 100% with Montelimar - Avignon will be a zoo in July - you could, in theory head straight north to Sault from Aix and then over to Valensole and on to Cannes, but that will be a long day's driving. In any case, skip Avignon unless you really want to take in the Festival.
