Eastern French Riviera...advice and help please!

We are hoping to spend a week at the end of July somewhere along the coast between Marseille and Menton .

We are 2 adults and 2 small children and are looking for somewhere a little quieter than the larger resorts and with a bit of character. (Maybe hard to find in that part of the world and at that time of the yr I know!)

We are not interested in the nightlife and casinos side of the Cote D'Azur. We are just looking for somewhere to hang out -a nice beach (not necessarily sand), a few cafes/restaurants, and perhaps a few nice streets to wander around.

We plan to travel by train and avoid hiring a car (tight budget!!) so we'll need to stick with places where things are within walking distance for little legs!

Any suggestions and advice will be much appreciated!

First suggestion: settle on a location right away and get your htoel booked. July is peak season, and you may already find your options limited.

Have a look at the little village of Villefranche-sur-Mer, near Nice. There are good rail and bus connections

Villefranche is certainly a good choice altho accommodation options in this beautiful little town are somewhat more limited than elsewhere.

You may also like to consider Antibes which would fit your specification of character, beaches, nice streets, cafes and restaurants and very good rail and bus connections to the rest of the Cote D'Azur with no need of a car The tourist office website will help you and there are hotel and aprtament ( residences) choices....

I would also suggest Antibes. There are some good apartments in or near the centre of old Antibes, it is easy walking around, a couple of good safe sandy beaches, restaurants, boulangeries, a good covered market, and a carousel. We have booked an apartment this year through French Riviera Rentals.

Antibes or Menton would probably fit the bill

How small are your kids?
