Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc in Antibes or Hotel Royal Riviera

We're considering either Hotel du Cap Eden-Roc in Antibes or Hotel Royal Riviera in St.-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. It will be my wife and two teenagers (college age). I was hoping to understand the difference between the two in terms of atmosphere, food, service, etc., as well as the areas they are located in.

They are both first class properties. IMO the Eden Roc is a cut above.. They are both quite formal.

The Royal Riviera has a lovely pool & a private sandy beach.

Great pool at the Eden Roc.....no beach.

The Royal Riviera is in a quiet area.

The Eden Roc is quite isolated out on the beautiful Cap d'Antibes.

If it were me....Eden Roc for sure.

Thank you for the insight. Any suggestion on how many days would be sufficient for a visit? Do you basically stay on the property during your stay?

Not sure how / where you have travelled before.

The Cote d'Azur is a tremendous destination that just happens to have some amazing hotels.

While the Royal Riviera and the Hotel du Cap are wonderful properties, there is so much to see / do along the Cote d'Azur that by just staying on the hotel grounds you would be short-changing yourself immensely.

It's not like travelling to the Caribbean or Mexico or other destinations where the resort is EVERYTHING and there is nothing to do / see off of the property.

A week will fly by on the Cote d'Azur.

Hi Louis. I don't have experience with the hotels but both are in great locations.

In writing more to tell you no , no, no! You do not stay on the premises. There is so much to do and see. Perched mideival villages, wineries, history, museums, nightlife, cafe culture, sailing...

Staying on the premises would be like going to NY and not leaving the hotel !!

Thanks to both. That is very helpful. It is our first time there. It seemed that Hotel Royal Riviera was in a more convenient location for walking around off the hotel premises, but more than one person has raved about Hotel du Cap.

You are right, Louis. One of the "attractions" of the Hotel du Cap to some guests is that fact that it is isolated. It's isolated in a stunningly beautiful residential area with little or no commerce in the area.

There aren't any restaurants within easy walking distance.

The Royal Riviera is again in a predominately residential area, but it is "closer in" and there is indeed more commerce in the immediate area.

I will confirm the famous Hotel du Cap is quite isolated on the peninsula. It is a favourite of celebrities who stay there during the Cannes Film Festival for that very reason rather than the fishbowl of Cannes itself.

The Royal Riviera is at the base of Cap Ferrat, where there are great walks. It is also a few minutes walk from the small town of Beaulieu, which has a market, some nice restaurants and some very expensive shops. In the other direction, about a fifteen minute walk away, is the village of Villefranche sur Mer, with a lovely old town and a beach that is good for swimming. Close by are also ancient perched villages such as Eze and La Turbie and the lively city of Nice. How long should you stay? We have a nephew who went to Nice for a few days ten years ago and has never left!
