Cannes Film Festival 2011

I've started to search for a hotel, but everything is already booked. I'm completely new to Festival-ing, so any advise is wellcomed. Maybe it's too early (or too late) for booking or maybe hotels will start to have special offers later... please share your experience.

Thank you in advance.

You are probably a little too early and/ or possibly may be searching for too few nights stay.

Hotels have minimum booking periods during the Film Festival and some have special conditions like prepayment for the whole reservation

Try looking at sites such as:

Hope this helps

Assuming you are not staying for the whole ten days or whatever, we have always found the first three or four days have the best atmosphere and celebrity factor. Towards the end a bit of festival fatigue sets in. You see a lot of unshaven French artfilm directors in dinnerjackets. The big studio and network parties (not especially the films) bring the stars in, plus whatever Hollywood is launching timed with the Festival not necessarily in the competition - these tend to be in the first week.

Stars were pretty thin on the ground this year as the industry has tuned to churning out such epics as "Sexy Dance 3 - 3D" . Perhaps the novelty of 3D will have worn off by next year, but I wouldn't count on it.

Have you thought of renting an apartment in Cannes for the Film Festival? Majority of people attending the Festival do that.

visit this website http://www.primaryrentals.com - great selection of properties to rent in Cannes.

Unfortunately a lot of rentiers bump up apartment prices in Cannes out of all proportion during the Festival. Think about moving down the railway line to places like Antibes ( 15 minutes) or Nice ( 30 minutes) where rents will remain at normal 'off season' levels throughout May.
