Worth going to Cannes tomorrow or Saturday

We are staying in Villefranche. Absolutely love the atmosphere and buildings. Wondering if we should train to Cannes to people watch for the end of the festival. We will be in Nice for 10 days in June. Should we just leave our day in Cannes till then.

Thanks Selkie - we will probably not go. The tourist office told us there was a strike yesterday and today would be OK. Will these strikes be going on for long? Thank you.

If you go to Cannes - and I think it is worth it for the people watching and atmosphere - you can take the 200 bus back to Nice as an alternative ( not very comfortable but it's there). But latest news this am says trains back to normal.

If you take the 200 home you can console yourself with the fact that the people you went to watch won't have the same slow uncomfortable journey home that you will have. I am sure they will apreciate your sacrifice :-) From a union perspective, the best time to strike is when it hurts the most.

Thanks everyone. We spent the most enjoyable morning walking to Beaulieu and having coffee seaside - then the beautiful walk to Nouveau Port Cap-Ferrat for lunch and just returned to our condo via bus to Villefranche. Feel we did much better than a hot day in Nice worrying about train strike. Sitting on our deck overlooking sea and tiled roof tops while on computer. Not too shabby! Thx all.

Went to Cannes myself this am by train - 9.06 am uncharacteristically right on time - but somewhat full with (judging by accents) 70% youthful North American visitors.

The day before my train was full of oxbridge ninnies braying at the top of their lungs. They all got off at Cannes

nb A strike timetable doe not mean zero trains-there is a minimum coverage to allow folk to get to work/school etc and strikes can be a couple of trains affected or almost all apart from rush hour. there are also often replacement buses as noted in the strike timetables - but they have sncf fares , not Alpes maritimes subsidised 1 euro fares.

JuniVancouver - i think you made a good descision. sounds like you had a very nice day out.

there are strike timetables for teh trains again tomorrow and planned for sunday atm

Usually strikes last essentially 24 hours but the deposition of strike alert [preavis de greve] is from 8pm the night before till 8am the day after the strike day - but in this case it is a renewable/roll-over strike [ grève reconductible]

Re trains to Cannes

Just to be clear that it is only some of the trains on the Les Arcs Draguinan branch that are affected. These trains are not the only ones that run between Nice Cannes

Here is the schedule for the affected branch tomorrow- Saturday 26th
