Tour guide in Cannes on May 1, 2013

did anyone know any reliable tour guide in this city, we get off the cruise ship from 10 am - 4 pm and we (16 people) would like to visit some famous places.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

You really don't need a guide in Cannes. It is pretty easy to self-navigate.

I won't repeat travel guru Rick Steves's joke here about Cannes... OK, I will... ( sorry SOOOZ) . 'Buy an ice cream at the station and by the time you finish licking it you will have seen Cannes.'

But seriously, Cannes is very easy and walkable - (a) the seafront promenade Croisette with its beaches which stretches some miles (b) the very picturesque Old Town Le Suquet with the Foirville market on the way. (c)Shopping on the Rue d'Antibes.

I would suggest you all hop on the open top tourist No.8 Palm Beach bus ( 1 euro each, each way ) which runs the length of the Croisette but May 1 is a major holiday and they will probably not be running. An alternative is the little tourist train that runs from the Port along the same Croisette and I think about 8 euro each.

You will have to walk to the Old Town anyway as it is not open to vehicles.

The tourist office in the big building beside the Port where the Film Festival takes place has a very handy walking map of Cannes as a free hand out.

Ed has described pretty well how to discover Cannes for yourselves. (ignoring Mr Steves journalistic balloney lol) The tourist train will definitely be running if you don't want to walk using the self tour map the tourist office provides.

If you plan to stay in and around Cannes, for something different you may also want to take a ferry out to one of the small islands in the bay.

Tickets can be purchased on the day from the booths at the old harbour where your ship's tender will dock.

May 1st is a major French holiday , local buses will not be running and the rail service along the coast to other places will be limited.

If your question relates to finding a private tour guide to take your group to other towns as well (by private minibus), an internet search or the sister site Cruise Critic will produce plenty of suggestions. However 6 hours isn't long and you might well enjoy a more leisurely visit in and around Cannes rather than a whistle stop tour of the coast

Enjoy !
