I will be in Nice for one week during July and would like to take a trip along the coast into Italy.
San Remo looks good but would be grateful for advice on whether this would be a good choice. Advice on ease of transport would be appreciated also.

We took a trip to San Remo a few years ago and were quite disappointed. Maybe we just didnt find the nice bit but really couldnt find anything that we liked about it. All the things I read about it prior to visiting made it sound really nice but I would say its ok but not somewhere I would recommend to anyone.

Well, it's whatever turns you on, really.
If you want a change from France and a sample of life in a nearby Italian town, you can't go far wrong with Sanremo. Don't expect spectacular beauty or the manicured opulence of some places on the Cote d'Azur (nor their high-rise developments), but it's a pleasant place.
A reasonable main shopping street and other interesting areas, a reasonable selection of restaurants and cafes, two small harbours, a rather small cathedral, many interesting architectural survivals (including the Casino) from its heyday many decades ago, a mediaeval old town with narrow pedestrian passages, beaches, markets etc.
Access by public transport: one suitable through train from Nice at 10.04 (reservation required) or by normal local trains changing at Ventimiglia.
Only for the Spaghetti Carbonara at "Il profumo del misto" on the piazza right across from Mc Do, the San Remo trip is worth a million!
