Where are the nearest public sandy beaches in the Nice area and are they easily accessible, on foot or any other means.

There is a beautiful sandy beach in Villefranche-sur-mer, which is about a 15 minute train ride from Nice. There is also a very nice beach in Antibes ( 20 minutes) or Cannes ( 25 minutes ) away. There are many others as well. Another is Eze ( about 20 minutes). They are all easily accessible by train. The train station is about a 15 minute walk from the Promenade de Anglais depending where you are staying. It is called the Niceville train station and there are many stops at beaches along the way in both directions.

If you want real sand you need to go to Antibes or further west. Essentially the beaches get better the further west you go.

The beaches in Villefranche, Beaulieu etc are naturally rocky but sand is brought in from time to time. Even this is not really sand but very fine grained pebbles.

Villefranche is easily accessible from Nice, 7 minutes by train or about 15 by bus. The very sheltered bay is great for swimming, although jelly fish are a problem at times.
