I wanted to say thank you to all the TA advisers, who were spot on. My daughter and I followed many of your recommendations and had a fab time in Nice.
Wines: Yummmm, had the chateau minutty, sainte-beatrice,domaines-ott, plus special offers in Monoprix and differnt house wines too , all great, I am a rose convert!
Shopping: gallarie layfayette.. well...just had to buy some shoes and terrines.
Food....of the 96 flavours in Fenocchio, we managed about 8 between us, including cactus and my favourite, lavender. Had beautiful meal in La maison de marie, the meal was like a work of art, and delicious, went to Boccaccio too, loved it, pricey but huge paella, and had a fish tapas, which I relished, butI only then realised how much my daughter ( the one who does't like wine) didn't like fish that much either.
However, I have to say that the restaurants in Cours Salaya were usually a dissapointment, especially Chez david , moules hadn't seen a whiff of garlic but had been stewed in very salty water, I had to send my grilled fish ( in non exisitant herbs ) back, as it was tepid, and they charged 5.90 for a bottle of evian, when I clealy asked for ordinary water. This was the only thing that we could complain of.
Transport, we walked or used trains/trams/buses and the guided tour bus, all very easy to use and excellent value.
Visited museums, chagal, matisse and modern art, I loved the monastry gardens next to the matisse museum, quite lovely. went up the chateau in old town, where a series of wedding parties came up for drinks and photo's,.
We rounded off our trip off with an easy train journey to Antibes, good sand beach and an excellent lunch ( fish for me again, pizza for my daughter). On our return to the train station we could hear a band playing, turned down a road and there was a Flower Parade, loads of bands and gorgeous flower decorated floats, chucking flowers to the crowd. We had a huge bunch to take back to give to our proprioter at our apartment, Residence lamartine... lovely lady, and huge clean apartment.
We had a wonderful time, a lovely city, my favourite view was the "jelly babymen" in Massena, my daughter.. well it has to be the ice cream. We will certainly return.
