Hi.

You don't say if you are looking for a hotel room or an apartment.

Problem is proximity: the closer you are from evrything the closer you are from the Promenades or the Old Town, both being kinda noisy.

If you do not mind walkin say 15 minutes or so to the seashore, you could opt for something close to Boulevard Victor-Hugo. Nice residential are, not too noisy, a few hotels nearby, about halfweay between Promenade and train station.

The old town and zone pietonne are very buzzy and atmospheric but noisy till late [especially the old town]-so don't pick them for restful sleep

when you say walking difficulties how does that translate ? - hills, steps, rough surface eg cobbles, balance issues, distance, need to stop and sit etc etc

btw Its easy to hire wheelchairs if necessary

what do you want to see/do in Nice?

Where will you be wanting to visit if taking day trips?

It will be easier to suggest areas once your requirements are known

Hi thank you for taking the time to reply to my query,

The walking problem is only for long distances, we would like to see right along the coast, probably by train, so am I asking to much to be able to have everything close at hand. I have no idea how big Nice is and if you can get round places on foot.

thanks

Hi I think your best bet could be to rent an apartment as you'd have so much more space and freedom than in a hotel. I'd suggest you avoid staying in the old town as it's fairly noisy and very few places have lifts - though the old town is great to visit obviously! Perhaps look at the areas close to the excellent bus routes and the Promenade des Anglais so you have lovely walks wherever you want to go, a swift bus ride back if you're tired, and easy access to places further afield such as Villefranche, Beaulieu or Monaco by bus, or Cannes and Antibes by train. Look on www.lignedazur.com for useful maps and travel info.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

Nice centre is very compact and pretty flat and walkable -but the tram and buses is also useful for getting about from one part of town to another .

its hard to suggest places to stay -for very quiet but fairly central I'd suggest the Musiciens area [its called musiciens because the streets are named after famous musicians not because there is lots of music]
