Nice of course. Monaco does not have many hotels and they are not in your price bracket. Sanremo is a small Italian town, very nice but probably not very busy around XMas time.

You should state your price bracquet in the cureency used in France i.e. Euros. $150 USD is around 100 euros these days. Is it for a single room, a double roome? What amenities do you expect for such a price?

Did you do some research on Nice either on websites or in guidebooks? Do you know in what area you would like to stay?

We landing in Milan Dec 30th and we don't know where to go from there, Nice, France sounds attractive nice (pretty) and no so expensive, we have 7 days total, Venice and or Florence is in our list.

Hotel amenities: quiet , clean, cozy, what you recomend, thank you for your response !

Aloha

Are planning to visit all three places (Nice, Venice and Florence) all in the space of seven days? If so I think you are being too ambitious, especially over a major holiday. You will lose about 2.5 days travelling from one place to another, assuming you have to return to Milan for your flight home. My suggestion would be that you base yourselves in Nice and see the other places along the coast from there or confine yourselves to Italy.

Nice is certainly an attractive city and would be my choice for a base for a week or so in mid-winter. I would not describe it as "pretty" however. It would also probably be a little warmer and possibly sunnier than either Venice or Florence but there are no guarantees of that. All of them will probably feel pretty chilly to someone arriving from Hawaii.

Beautiful though Nice is, if you are definitely going to Venice and/or Florence, you may not want to go there in your brief seven day trip. It's five hours on the train from Milan, in the wrong direction, and there are only two direct trains a day (a few more if you change trains in Ventimiglia). And it's around eight hours or even more by train back from Nice to Venice (via Milan) or to Florence.

These journeys would be a little quicker by rental car, but a car is not useful in Nice itself, is an expensive nuisance in Florence (as the whole of the centre is a limited traffic zone that you are not allowed to drive in) and is a complete waste of time in Venice (no roads).

If you are desperate to spend time by the Mediterranean sea (which is not necessarily a good idea in January), then going to Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo or Sestri Levante might be better (around seven hours less train travel than Nice and four hours less than San Remo). But these places are quite small and are still off the high speed train routes, so you might prefer to spend all your time in Venice and Florence rather than spending much extra time on trains and having very little time in each place on a three-city itinerary.

Check out train times in Italy (and to Nice) on http://trenitalia.it/homepage_en.html using current dates as times are not yet available past the change of schedules on December 13.
